 David And His Character

2Sa 11:2 And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? {Bathsheba: or, Bathshuah} {Eliam: or Ammiel}

4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. {for she…: or, and when she had purified herself, etc, she returned}

5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

2Sa 11:14 ¶ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. {hottest: Heb. Strong} {from him: Heb. From after him}

Job 31:1 ¶ I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Job And His Integrity

What is integrity?

  • Honesty
  • Truthfulness
  • High moral principles

Job 2:9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? Curse God, and die.

Job 2:3; 21:15

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Job 2:3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? And still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. {to destroy…: Heb. To swallow him up}

Job 27:5 God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.

6 My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live. {so long…: Heb. From my days}
